Brown Sugar Bacon Green Beans

Brown Sugar Bacon Green Beans!!! Now that just instantly makes my mouth water and taste buds do a dance. These green beans are simple to make and amazing for any meal, get together or to indulge. Did I mention these are simple.... This recipe was given to me by my brothers future Mother In Law.

Ingredients:
9 Cups Green Beans - Any Type - Drained
1 Stick Unsalted Butter
2 cups brown sugar
2 tsp garlic salt
1/2 lb bacon cut into little pieces - more may be used as preferred
  1. Preheat Oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. Melt Butter, Brown Sugar & Garlic Salt together in sauce pan over medium heat siring occasionally to prevent burning. When combined and melted it will have a paste consistency
  3. Pour drained green beans into 9 x 13 or larger baking dish
  4. Pour butter mixture over green beans and gently toss
  5. Sprinkle the bacon pieces on top
  6. Bake for 30-40 min.
  7. Serve Warm

Cooks Note:
  • While I am an avid frozen and fresh veggie girl this recipe is better with the canned green beans. I used standard cut green beans.
  • A typical serving size for green beans is 1/2 cup so check labels for how many cups are in each can (nutrition label). So for 9 cups you would need 18 servings.
  • While this recipe does have a high sodium content you can reduce it by using No Salt Added Green Beans. You may also try reducing the Garlic Salt or substituting with Garlic Powder to eliminate added salt all together.

Couponing!!!

Couponing - Verb - Act of using coupons

So I have been a big couponer for a while, if that's would you could call us. No I am not all extreme couponing or anything but it does save lots of money.

There are many types of coupons now a days that will help in the long run. As a young adult living on my own for the first time this is going to help save alot of money in the long run. Pennies add up.

  1. Print / Manufacture Coupons - Typically come in newspapers on Sundays or are given online/ mail by the manufacture
  2. Store Coupons - Most stores that offer a loyalty program offer store coupons. These can be anything from $5.00 off in Meat to $$ off your grocery bill. These are usually only good in that particular store. These are usually given at register when you check out or mailed to you.
  3. Instant Coupons - These are similar to Manufacture coupons but are usually found stuck on the product it's self.
  4. Digital Coupons - Once again usually available with stores that have a Loyalty Program. You can go online or go to the app and add coupons to your loyalty card that will automatically apply at the register. This is great if you tend to forget coupons at home, are "too busy" to mess with print coupons, or forget to give them to cashier when checking out. They don't always get you the best savings but its a start.
There are many more but these are the ones I encounter the most.

The key to couponing is organization! Everyone will organize differently as according to their needs and purpose. I started with a pendaflex pocket file and am now in a binder.

Now my binder is actually a 3-ring zipper portfolio. But it offers everything I will need to coupon in one handy place. As someone on the go who is occasionally using public transportation that is a plus! I don't want my coupons I spent hrs cutting to fall all over the bus. My mother uses just a plain 3 ring binder with a zipper pouch in the front. The bonus of the portfolio is that it usually has a handle of some sorts for easy carrying along with a pad of paper. Perfect for making a list on the go.

Now there are many ways to organize your coupons. I have mine organized by categories such as Dairy, Baking, Box Goods, Health & Beauty, Paper Products, Cleaning Supplies, Diet Foods, Pet Items ect. You will customize each category as you see fit.If you are not sure do a store walk through and make a tab for each aisle with a guide to what is on that aisle. You can usually get a store lay out from the store manager as well. I prefer the categories in case I go to a store that's not my normal.

I used basic Index Dividers from the local supply store in my binder along with Baseball Card Holders. These both can be purchased at places like Target & Walmart. The Large Index Dividers work best but to make sure I always pick up a pack of "filler"(baseball card holders) and hold them under the dividers. If I can see the cards through the tabs they wont be seen in the binder. If all I see are tabs then they will work. The baseball card holders work great for coupons. Most fit perfectly and they are easy to get in & out. With 6 different coupons to a page it is easy to view, quick to look through and functional. Most office supply stores carry coupon binders and holders but the pricing is some times 3x what these basic school supplies cost.

You will notice in the pictures below I most of my coupon supplies with me including:
  • Reading Glasses
  • Sharpie & Pen (Ad Marking & List Making
  • Ads
  • Scissors (small & Med)
  • Binder Clips.
If you don't have a portfolio and want to start small grab a school supply zipper pouch during the back to school season for usually a $1.00. You can also find 3-ring binders, index dividers & scissors for cheap during this time.

If you have any questions on how to get started comment below or message me :)

Happy Couponing!

Film Photography

As most everyone knows now I am a sucker for Film Photography. There is something about the film that when used correctly can show details you didn't know existed, add a new depth to your photo and make it look timeless. Below are some of my favorites from Easter 2013. Just so happened that was the same day my brother (Lance Corporal in the Marine Corp) asked his girl friend to marry him so I got to experiment!

Brothers Marine Cover with my Soon to Be Sister-In-Laws Engagement Ring on a lace covered end table with white wall background.

An inside joke picture but classic!

Another inside joke picture. I focused my camera on the sink rather than the subject to give the blur effect.

Ice Cream in a Bag

My family has been begging me for this recipie so I thought I would add it.

This is a great summer treat, Cooking Lesson & Science Experiment all in one! Great for kiddos to do with friends!

Ingredients & Supplies Needed:
1 Large Zip Lock Bag (Gallon Size)
1 Small Zip Lock Bag (Sandwich) **If making more than single serving increase bag size**
1/2 c Half & Half (Milk works also but not as creamy)
1 tbsp Sugar
1 tsp Pure Vanilla Extract
Rock Salt (or ice cream salt if you can find it)
Ice

Steps:

  1. Place Half & Half, sugar & vanilla in small bag & seal tightly!
  2. Fill Large bag 3/4 full with ice
  3. Sprinkle a generous amount of rock salt on to the ice (this helps the mixture freeze)
  4. Place the small bag inside the large and seal.
  5. Shake the bags (ensuring the small one is covered by ice) for aprox 5 min or until the mixture is at ice cream texture.
  6. Remove small bag, discard large bag with ice and ENJOY!
**Chefs Note: If you concerned regarding the smaller bag opening place it inside another small bag to create a double bag effect. You will have to shake longer to ensure the mixture freezes properly. **

Time Off

I am such a perfectionist. When it comes to taking time off of work I'm a basket case. Constantly writing and re-writing my daily tasks to ensure my backups have all the needed information to cover me. I think its mostly this time because of the nervousness I have, the reason I'm taking off. Getting an endoscopy and colonoscopy are routine procedures and are done every day. However for some reason I know deep down I am nervous about it. My doctors found evidence of blood loss within my digestion track during recent tests.  The good news is my Iron levels are up so I do not have to get a treatment this month and will not go back for 3 months!!! Anyways I better get back to work and make sure I am caught up. I don't need anything to go wrong while I'm out.

St Pattys Day

Happy St Patrick's Day!

Last year I cant remember half of what happened. This year I plan on remembering every detail including not drinking. Plus drinking heavely on a sunday just makes a Monday even worse... I know from experience.

So back to house cleaning and watching Army Wives I go.

Buddies

In most every guys life they have that girl. No not the girlfriend, the girl friend. The girl that is friends with all the guys. Or as us girls call it the buddies. I am one of these said girls. Every guy I have ever persuaded has in one way or form become a buddy. I convince them to ask out other girls, give them relationship advise and am over all the female perspective for them. Yet there is emotional feelings other than friends. I know more about some of their personal lives than anyone and I'm the one that gets introduced as the friend Sam. It's hard, seeing every guy you have feelings for date other women. Sadly I don't feel as if I am ever going to leave this position but maybe one day I will.

On a brighter note I love my girlfriends. I recently broke up with the southern prince. Turns out he was more of a controlling monarch than prince. Well we went out for a girls night last night and lone behold the son of a b**** was there. We had previously talked about going out and where we were going. He told me he wouldn't be there but there he was. The best part is with the help of my girls I really showed him. We found me plenty of hot guys to dance with and I danced the night away. He saw me and stopped dead in his tracks. I didn't even give him the light of day. It was the most releasing thing I have done in a while. It gives me the strength I need to more forward in life.

As my motto this year is carry on, may your past be the sound of your feet upon the ground.

For now I must say goodnight. Long week ahead.

Holiday Season

So before all the hoopla begins I would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas. This is the first Christmas that my brother will not be here for.

Please keep all military personel in your prayers this holiday season. It breaks theirs and their familys heart to not be home to celebrate.

Now on to all the fun things I have made. Of course you have seen all of the presents I gave my best friends. But now there are cookies to be made! Here is a preview of them all:

 Mexican Wedding Cookies

For now they had me get another dose of Iron IV. I once again picked a good date to get it. The first time I got a concert by local country artist, Derek Anthony:

This last time (a week ago) we had a special visit from Santa and local Firefighters!!!

Needless to say I blushed!!! Plus these firefighters know how to manhandle if you get my drift. :)

So for now, my and my puppy wish you and your family all the best this holiday season!

Merry Christmas!!

Best Friend Party

Every year me and my 2 very best friends (out of the many), the ones I consider my sisters, get together and have a Christmas party. This year Pintrest was my drawing board. If you have never been on Pintrest they have a lot of fun usually easyand cute craft ideas. For Christmas this year they each received 3 gifts.

#1- paint swatch calendar. It was simply made by cutting FREE paint samples to a 2" width* and gluing them to either paper or cardstock the size of your frame. *I used an 11x17" frame so if you use smaller reduce the size of your paint samples. When done insert into frame and use a dry erase marker to create the calendar.

#2 - scrabble letter coasters Mogpodge scramble letters onto cork tiles and seal with modpoge for a coaster.

#3 Hot Chocolate in jars (not pictured) and stir sticks. For the stir sticks I dipped candy canes into a dark chocolate and let harden over night.

Super simple and all done in 9 hours.

Okay mow to go party. Merry Christmas y'all!

The results are in...

My hematologist has finally found out what is going on. I have iron deficiency anemia caused by a blood defect that prohibits my blood from naturally absorbing nutrients from food. I am also intolerant to oral iron (iron supplements). So the next stop is iron treatments via IV/transfusion. I am so thankful for health insurance that this isn't going to cost me a fortune. I am also so thankful my primary chose a good center for me to get treatment at. I feel right at home and they are more than happy to answer any questions I have and walk me through all steps of the process. So next Thursday I go for my 1st treatment  6 hours in the Chemo/Transfusion room getting the iron IV. My mom has been so helpful through all of this, she is even going with me to my appointment to keep me company. Anyways, I better get back to work and do something to constitute them paying me...

Until Later.. :)

Fears

Fears... Everyone has them, some have a fear of the dark, of heights. Personally I have a fear of snakes however recently I have a new fear. The fear of loss. With all this shit my body is going through it scares me. It scares me for all the losses I can endure. The loss of my hair (I was blessed with beautiful German hair that does everything perfect and rarely has a bad day). The loss of the ones I love. At any moment they can say it's all too much and walk out. Over the past few days as everything comes into perspective I've had people say to not worry and wait to talk to the doctors. Well that's fine and dandy but when you wake up in the morning and your entire body feels like you just got hit with a truck you might have a slight bit of worry. I found out today that a parent of a family friend is going thought a similar condition currently. Although we don't know if that's really what I have, just speculating. They have to do so much and it's pretty rough. But I am determined I will relax and wait for the doctors then do what I can to overcome this obstacle.

Okay well it's bed time. Hopefully I will be able to sleep a full night and won't feel like a truck ran over me in the morning so I can go to work.

Good night all! :-*

Work Work Work

Good Morning Loves :)

Work is blah this morning with all of the month end whopla done we are starting a new month.

Its been a rough last few weeks. Being sick sucks & not in the flu/cold sick type of way. Its scary when there is something wrong with your body but you have no clue what it is. It really freaks me out. Im currently scheduled to go see a Hematologist within a month to find out if its a blood disorder that is messing me all up or something else.

Anyways back to the happy side of my life... Halloween is coming up!!! That means Thanksgiving, Black Friday & Christmas are right around the corner! I so can not wait!!!

Well now work is picking back up so I better get back, I really am going to try and be better at posting more often. It will be easier with the holidays cause I always get to do more Crafts, Decorate and try new Recipes!!!

Until Later...

Baby Showers & Birthdays

These last 3 weekends have been crazy busy with Baby Showers and Birthday Parties. My best friend Lacey is having a girl!!! Audrey Candice is due in October and I absolutely can not wait!!! Her aunt & mom thew her a baby shower a few weeks ago. One of the requests from the host and the mom to be was that everyone was assigned a letter to decorate for an ABC wall in the baby's room. My assigned Letter was the W...

Here is all of the decorated letters that were brought...

Part of the party was that everyone was asked to decorate a onesie for Audrey to use. These are just a few:
Some of the onesies made!
The onesie I decorated!

Of course amazing decorations were a must with this adorably creative family:
Diapers were wrapped in baby wash cloths and topped with a sock to mimic a sleeping baby. There were put in a small doll crib and guests were instructed to unwrap the "baby" & use the cloth as a napkin. The mom to be got to take home all socks, diapers and cloths to use with Audrey.
Okay so present time!!!! I went all home made for Audrey with my staples and any baby shower. We have 2 home made hooded towels, two receiving / nursing blankets. I also got her feeding spoons and a formula dispenser (which FYI if the mom wants to breast feed this handy gadget is also good for dry cereal mixes, small snacks etc.), I also got Audrey some of my personal favorite books: Green Eggs & Ham and Brown Bear Brown Bear. Since I am Sam I signed the green eggs & ham to add a personal touch. All of this I put into a medium size basket from Hobby Lobby and tied with a pretty bow!
My Present to Lacey & Audrey

Anyways that's all for the baby shower!!! It was so much fun and baby fever is definitely spreading!

Until next time...

Kisses!

Day Off

Today is my day off! That is unusual for me since I work so much! Of course even since it is my day off my internal alarm clock woke me up at 4:30am freaking out since my puppy wasn't up yet. Normally my alarm goes of at 4:00am which signals the dogs to wake up and go potty. No alarm = sleep till 5 am :)! Yes I said 5 am! Even on my days off I am up at 5 am doing god knows what and getting ready in the mornings! This morning the dogs have a date at the puppy spa (Petsmart) for a little R & R away from the house. We arrived at 6:45 and walked in with the groomer who was surprised we got there early for our 7 am appointment. Once leaving there I am now back home to enjoy a quite morning with no puppies. Just me, my computer and my coffee!
My Day will soon start with the buzzing of my cell phone from coworkers who cant handle me being out.

I must go change clothes and start my day! I'm spending it with my momma! We are going shopping and out about on the town! Somewhere in there we are having breakfast and then lunch with my Aunt. Tonight is when the fun starts cause you know in the south we don't go down till the sun comes up!

Oh one more thing! Congratulations to my little brother Chris who is graduating from the United States Marine Corp Boot Camp today @ MCRD San Diego! I wish me and bubba could be there to cheer you on as you walk across the parade deck for the first time as a US Marine but bubba is enjoying Japan (also a Marine, yes girls I have 2 USMC Brothers, please wipe up the drool only the younger is single and I'm a very protective sister! Pictures of both below) and I cant afford Cali right now. I hope to see you when you get back! Love you!

Any way for now I must sign off!
